Description:
The Gullfoss waterfall on the Hvitá (White) river in southwestern Iceland creates a rainbow. In 1907, Sigridur Tomasdottir threatened to throw herself into the falls unless plans to dam the river were cancelled. The government ruled against her but the lease expired in 1928 so Gullfoss and Sigridur were saved.
